Determination of Particular Endogenous Fires Hazard Zones in Goaf with Caving of Longwall

Abstract: Abstract.Hazard of endogenous fires is one of the basic and common presented occupational safety hazards in coal mine in Poland and in the world. This hazard means possibility of coal self-ignition as the result of its self-heating process in mining heading or its surrounding. In underground coal-mining during ventilating of operating longwalls takes place migration of parts of airflow to goaf with caving. In a case when in these goaf a coal susceptible to selfignition occurs, then the airflow through these go… Show more

“…This phenomenon should be regarded as dangerous since it may 377 disturb the ventilation process of this heading and lead to low-temperature oxidation of coal in the 378 cracked sidewall area. This, in turn, may cause an endogenous fire to arise [44,62,63]. This is 379 confirmed by the statistics related to spontaneous combustion of coal in the roof and sidewalls of 380 excavated dog headings [64].…”

“…In particular, this applies to various types of hazards occurring in mining excavations. For the control system and the entire roof support, the most threatening events are rock bursts (Szurgacz and Brodny 2018a), fire Tutak and Brodny, 2018;Tutak and Brodny, 2017b) and methane explosion Tutak, 2016, Felka and. This causes that the control systems and their individual elements must be of adequate quality and reliability.…”

“…Their primary task is to secure the working space in underground excavations during mining exploitation. The operation of the roof support also has a major impact on the formation of various types of threats, such as concerning ventilation (Brodny and Tutak, 2016a;Brodny and Tutak 2016b; and fire (Tutak and Brodny, 2017;Tutak, 2017b). A powered roof support is a basic element of the underground safety system.…”
