Determination of Particulate Matter and Toxic Gaseous in Ambient Air Adjacent to Industrial Area

Abstract: A B S T R A C TAir quality in the residential areas adjacent to the industrial regions is of great concern due to the association with particulate matter and toxic gaseous which has adverse effects on human health. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the air quality in term of PM10 concentrations and toxic gaseous (CO and NO) at University Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) residential college which is adjacent to a wood processing, electronic and fibre board factories. Four Stations defined as Station … Show more

“…Samuri, ( 2005) has recorded a PM10 concentration of 222.22 µg/m³ at the UTHM entrance which exceeded the recommended concentration at the Malaysian Ambient Air Quality Guidelines -2015 (RMAQ) and the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) (150 µg/m³ ). However, in 2016 R. Mohamed et al, (2017) have recorded moderated concentrations of PM10 at the UTHM university campus that ranged between 58 and 114 µg/m³ (<150 µg/m³). The indoor air quality of the UTHM university campus buildings was in accordance with the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), RMAQ, and NAAQS (R. Mohamed et al, 2017).…”

“…The challenges posed by outdoor air pollution are public health risks such as cardiovascular disease, respiratory ailments, COPD, and world-class asymmetry [2]. Air quality in the residential areas adjacent to the industrial regions is of great concern due to the association with particulate matter and toxic gaseous which has adverse effects on human health [3]. Considering the influence of air on human life and its consumption overnight, it can be stated that the unfavorable quality of air in today's world is considered one of the most important environmental problems in many of the world's large cities [4].…”
