Determination of Radiation Shielding Properties of Cotton Polyester Blend Fabric Coated with Different Barite Rate

Abstract: Using radiation in industry and medicine brings its hazardous effects. On account of this, people have started to be exposed to extra radiation. Thus radiation protection is developed in parallel with the utilization of radiation. In order to be protected from radiation three different criteria have to be taken into account, these are time, distance and the shielding. Shielding is the most effective way. An effective shield should cause a large energy loss on a small distance without emission of more hazardous… Show more

“…Loading with Bi 2 O 3 enhanced attenuation and shielding characteristics due to high attenuation constant of Bi element. [61,62] PVC-10 coated PES spunbond with average thickness of 0.318 mm reduced approximately 0.07 % of applied radiation dose at 120 kVp. This reducement was determined for single- ChemistrySelect layered PVC-10 coated PES spunbond.…”

“…Typically, gamma radiation has been used in order to test the shielding capability of natural polymers. Cotton fabric coated with different materials such as barite (barium sulphate) [56,57], raw jute or composites made with jute [58][59][60], natural rubber with carbon nanotube additions [61] possess the ability to shield gamma radiation. Rare-earth-doped rubber can attenuate cosmic rays by up to 10% compared with conventional aluminum shielding [62].…”
