Determination of some physicochemical parameteres and inorganic nutrient content of Gediz River (Manisa)

Abstract: Objective: This present investigation aimed at assessing the water quality of the Gediz River located in western Turkey. Methods: Some physicochemical parameters and nutrient concentrations of the surface water of Gediz River were determined over a period of twelve months (October to September 2012) at 5 sampling sites along the river. Results: Data on some ions namely NH 4 -N, NO 2 -N, NO 3 -N and PO-34-P were measured. The pH, temperature, electrical conductivity (EC), salinity and dissolved oxygen were also d… Show more

“…Numerous studies have been carried out on the environmental interactions of pollutants in the Gediz River basin, where urbanization, agricultural and industrial activities are forceful, and basin protection action plans have been generated by the relevant authorities (Anonimous, 2013; Şentürk & Yıldız, 2015).…”

“…According to our literature search, a few investigations on the occurrence of PTEs in surface sediments of Gediz River have been carried out in the past. On the other hand, these studies were limited to the lower basin areas of the river (Kindler & Sevim, 1990;Akçay et al, 2003;Parlak et al, 2006;Kucuksezgin et al, 2008;Şentürk & Yıldız, 2015;Eroğlu & Esenpınar, 2019) or only local areas such as Manisa City province (Minareci et al, 2009). The objectives of the current study were: (1) to determine the distribution and concentration of 18 PTEs in surface sediments sampled from 13 stations located from upper basins to lower basins of the Gediz River; (2) to nd out potential sources of PTEs by using multi-variable statistical techniques; (3) to assess comprehensively the ecological and health risks of PTEs.…”
