Determination of Surface Roughness Parameters by Optical Profilometry and Sand Patch Test

Abstract: In cases when two concrete parts are cast against in different times are not connected by dowels, main contributors to the resistance are cohesion and friction. Shear resistance of the interface is highly dependent on surface treatment and its roughness. In this paper, besides the review of available methods of surface roughness determination, the optical profilometry will be introduced and described. Optical profilometry represents non-contact and non-destructive method for characterizing surface topography. … Show more

“…Čairović et al compared a laser triangulation system and the sand patch method for assessing surface roughness parameters [14]. For their experiments, the authors used five concrete specimens with roughness ranging from very smooth to rough and illustrated the correlation of both methods in a diagram.…”

“…The surface topography, as presented in Figure 10a, was obtained using 3D optical profilometry. 37 A mobile measurement system based on the scanCONTROL 2,750-100 laser triangulation profilometer allowed roughness parameters to be obtained with high accuracy of 50 μm. Both 2D and 3D surface texture parameters were established by following the guidelines of ISO 4287 and ISO 13565-1, 38,39 respectively, and ISO 25178-1 40 was utilized for areal methods.…”
