Determination of the Contents of Antioxidants and Their Degradation Products in Sodium Chloride Injection for Blood Transfusion

Abstract: The infusion bag is mainly made up of polyolefin polymer. Antioxidants are usually added to these polymer materials in the production process to prevent the materials from aging and enhance the stability of the materials. Because of the potential harm of antioxidants to human body, it is necessary to limit the amount of antioxidants migrating to the pharmaceutical solutions. In the present study, we developed and validated the HPLC method for the simultaneous quantification of antioxidants and their degradatio… Show more

“…The distinct composition profiles of BHT-COOH and fenozan acid between rat urine and human urine samples may indicate species-dependent metabolism of the target SPAs. In addition, direct human exposure to fenozan acid may exist as fenozan acid has been reported as an impurity product and degradation product of 3-(3,5-di- tert -butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate antioxidants in plastic products . As no industrial production information of fenozan acid was available, we can deem fenozan acid as a pseudo-family member of 3-(3,5-di- tert -butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate antioxidants.…”

Thus, the fenozan acid detected in human urine samples can be considered a result of human exposure to 3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate antioxidants.…”

“…As shown in previous studies, diammonium glycyrrhizin can improve DILI and rapidly reduce the level of alanine transaminase. [ 42 ] Besides, compound glycyrrhizin exhibits the activities of anti-inflammation and hormone-like activities, shows protective effects on the liver cell membrane, decreases phospholipase A2 activity, and alleviates liver tissue damage. [ 43 ] However, due to the complex condition of DILI patients, each drug may have its own limitations.…”
