Determination of the optimal number of runs of dehairing in fibers of patagonian cashmere goats

Abstract: The AM2 dehairing technology reduces the objectionable fibers content of shorn fleeces. Nonetheless, it also reduces fiber length and the final yield is affected by the successive runs through the dehairing machine, though it allows specifying the number of passes required for each lot. The aim of this work is to establish the number of passes that the machine should make until optimal performance is reached from an objectionable fibers content, fiber length, fiber diameter and yields to dehairing perspective.… Show more

“…2 Recalculating the results obtained in Cashmere in a previous work yields a similar result. 11 This would be demonstrating an improved behavior of the fiber of Llama and Alpaca to the shortening of the fiber, not necessarily due to the technology used.…”

“…Humidification and addition of antistatic agent were carried out and 10 passes (NºPas) were made through a dehairing module of the AM2 equipment, 7 establishing the 7 th pass with minimal coarse fiber removal (FG1) (Figure 1). 11 The outputs of each passage (product and residuals) adjusted to constant humidity were weighed and in the LAFTA laboratory, Determination of the efficiency of the AM2 dehairing technology process with Llama fiber of different types of fleeces and Alpaca Huacaya fiber…”

“…The main fiber features which play a central role in the effectiveness of mechanical dehairing are the hair rigidity (defined mainly by its diameter) and the hair length. In this regard, it is crucial to avoid the overlapping between the short and fine down fiber and the coarse and long guard hair [ 2 , 29 , 30 ].…”

“…Regarding controversies in the scientific vertex: other groups promoted another strategy for cashmere development The CONICET and Universidad de Cordoba researchers aimed at maximizing raw fiber production. They promoted electric shearing for the international brokers as opposed to combing Cashmere and elaborating goods locally (Frank et al, 2018).…”
