“…Seaweeds belong to the lower cryptogams and are mainly composed of green algae, red algae, and brown algae; they are rich in protein, a variety of vitamins, minerals, and fibers, and have been widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries [1,2,3]. Nowadays, polysaccharides from seaweed are becoming more and more important in biochemical and medical areas [4,5].…”

“…For the extraction of triazine residues [55], seaweed samples were blended with C8 and cleaned up using a dual layer (separated by a frit) of ENVI-CarbII/PSA as co-sorbent. ENVI-Carb has strong affinity towards planar molecules, whereas PSA can retain fatty acids, organic acids, sugars and some polar pigments.…”

“…For this purpose, florisil (1.5 g) as dispersant was assayed with Envi-Carb (1 g) and C 18 (1 g) as co-sorbents. Based on our experience, elution of the cartridges was performed with 20 mL of ethyl acetate and 5 mL of acetonitrile after rinsing with 10 mL of hexane (Rodríguez-González et al, 2014). The extracts obtained using C 18 were very dark, indicating coelution of matrix interferences and were not analysed.…”

“…The key factors for the success of MSPD are its feasibility, flexibility, versatility, high throughput, low cost and rapidity. MSPD methods have been developed for the extraction of triazine residues from different plants and plant materials (Ramos et al, 2009;Rodríguez-González, González-Castro, Beceiro-González, MuniateguiLorenzo, & Prada-Rodríguez, 2014;Wen et al, 2012); however references for the determination of triazines in animal tissues by MSPD are scarce. As far as we know, there are only two references in the literature devoted to the determination of triazines in fish by MSPD and furthermore few triazines are included in these studies (Gaunt & Barker, 2000;Souza-Caldas et al, 2013).…”
