Detoxification of Fumonisins by Three Novel Transaminases with Diverse Enzymatic Characteristics Coupled with Carboxylesterase

Abstract: Fumonisin (FB) is one of the most common mycotoxins contaminating feed and food, causing severe public health threat to human and animals worldwide. Until now, only several transaminases were found to reduce FB toxicity, thus, more fumonisin detoxification transaminases with excellent catalytic properties required urgent exploration for complex application conditions. Herein, through gene mining and enzymatic characterization, three novel fumonisin detoxification transaminases—FumTSTA, FumUPTA, FumPHTA—were id… Show more

“…FumI may be suitable for future use as a feed enzyme ( Hartinger et al, 2010 , 2011 ). Yue Wang reported three fumonisin detoxifying aminotransferases, FumTSTA, FumUPTA, and FumPHTA, that share 61–74% sequence identity with FumIS and FumIB and exhibit good pH and thermal stabilities ( Wang Y. et al, 2023 ).…”

“…The authors of a very recent study performed gene mining to construct three novel fumonisin transaminases (aminotransferases) [ 152 ]. These enzymes called FumTSTA, FumUPTA, and FumPHTA were from Paraburkholderia madseniana (FumTSTA) and Phenylobacterium sp.…”

“…The revealed candidate enzymes should be then tested for their real substrate-degrading activity and degradation products. As examples, we can mention the study [ 149 ], where the authors used gene mining to reveal a novel carboxylesterase FumDSB from Sphingomonadales bacterium , and the study [ 152 ] resulted in the revealing of three novel fumonisin aminotransferases FumTSTA, FumUPTA, and FumPHTA from Paraburkholderia madseniana and Phenylobacterium sp. In some cases, additional computational tools can be used.…”
