The Comparative Psychotherapy Process Scale (CPPS) is an instrument designed to measure therapist interventions in a psychotherapy session. The scale includes 20 items divided into two subscales: the PI (psychodynamic-interpersonal) scale, which describes psychodynamic-interpersonal techniques; and the CB (cognitivebehavioural) scale, which includes cognitive-behavioural interventions. The aim of the study was to examine the psychometric properties of the CPPS, comparing the PI and CB subscales with the psychodynamic, cognitive and STTP prototypes, as described by the Psychotherapy Process Q-set(PQS). The sample comprised 94 sessions (N = 94) of psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioural orientation. Two groups of independent raters with excellent interrater reliability (ICC = .78) evaluated the sessions. The results suggest that the CPPS is a valid and reliable instrument that provides a clinically sensitive and psychometrically robust evaluation of a therapist's techniques. The clinical and research implications of the results are discussed.

First-line psychological treatment recommendations for acute MDD include cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), and behavioural activation (BA). Second-line recommendations include computer-based and telephone-delivered psychotherapy. Where feasible, combining psychological treatment (CBT or IPT) with antidepressant treatment is recommended because combined treatment is superior to either treatment alone. First-line psychological treatments for maintenance include CBT and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). Patient preference, in combination with evidence-based treatments and clinician/system capacity, will yield the optimal treatment strategies for improving individual outcomes in MDD.

Objective: Goals of this single-case study are to assess whether tests according to Control Mastery Theory (CMT) can be reliably identified by trained raters and to examine whether the Psychotherapy Process Q-Sort method can adequately represent the test situation. Method: A single case was analyzed by well-trained psychology graduates on the basis of the Plan Formulation Method. The interrater reliability of the identified tests was examined. In addition, the tests were classified according to the Psychotherapy Process Q-Sort. Results: 70 test situations were identified with acceptable overall interrater reliability and slightly better values for single categories. The Q-Sort analysis indicated 34 items that were assigned more than 5 times to 3 tests. Overall, a combination of more than five Q-Sort items represented one test situation. Conclusions: These findings demonstrate that even welltrained graduates can identify tests. Indeed, the Psychotherapy Process Q-Sort does not suffice to adequately represent the test concept according to CMT.
