Developing capabilities: Lifelong learning in the age of AI

Abstract: Due to the ongoing digitalisation of workplaces and educational settings, human activity underpinning learning and work is increasingly mediated by technology. The advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and its integration into everyday technologies influences how people are exposed to information, interact, learn and make decisions. We argue that technology, data and evolving AI applications affect how humans enact and experience life and work, changing the context for learning. Hence, as this paper argu… Show more

“…Worries and optimism in the discourse around the learning process are part of the student's interests and motivations, which are related to personal meaning. In a learning process, the teacher's attention to students can focus on improving learning outcomes, developing new skills and identifying opportunities and changes well (Poquet & De Laat, 2021). The shift from the explanation is that in improving learning outcomes and the quality of student learning, students do not necessarily rely on teaching methods that are usually taught (from generation to generation).…”

“…Within this broader context, learning activity is often associated with people's abilities to make choices about what they value and what they would like to pursue in life (Poquet & De Laat, 2021). Having such ability is especially important when one's choices might be seen as curtailed by personal or existential circumstances.…”

“…Different studies prove that there is a need to design environments by responding through technology to current educational challenges and enhancing learning processes [ 31 , 32 , 33 , 34 , 35 ]. Such an approach results from increasing the presence of AI in all aspects of human activity [ 35 , 36 , 37 ]; hence, researchers have provided comprehensive studies of technologies enhancing the inclusiveness and smart education of societies [ 36 , 37 , 38 ]. The increasing interest in artificial intelligence for innovative solutions and human-like intelligence results from its cognitive abilities, learning, adaptability, and decision-making capabilities [ 39 ].…”
