“…A second, more recent example, is Strangers in Their Own Land , a book that details Arlie Russell Hochschild's (2016) forays into the deep South to, in her terms, “cross the empathy walls” that separate political parties in the U.S. and understand the underlying paradoxes embedded in these relationships. A third example is the amazing work done by Herb Kelman and Jay Rothman (separately) in mediating Arab-Israeli conflicts (Kelman, 1995; Rothman, 1997) as well as recent work by Artsbridge, an organization that utilizes dialogic and therapeutic art to foster deeper understanding and greater appreciation of each other among Palestinian and Israeli teenagers (Nathan, 2023). These projects created safe spaces for dialogue between Arabs and Jews which allowed these disputants to share and acknowledge their deepest identifications and interests and provided demonstrations that reduction in hostility among these two groups was indeed possible.…”
