Developing Simulation Based Optimization Mechanism for Novel Stochastic Reliability Centered Maintenance Problem

Abstract: This research investigates joint scheduling of maintenance and production planning. This novel integrated problem takes benefit of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) for monitoring and managing maintenance function of a stochastic complex production-planning problem namely flexible job shop scheduling problem (FJSP). The developed RCM works based on stochastic shocking of machines during their process time. In fact, it implements condition based maintenance approach regulated according to stochastic reliab… Show more

“…This is made possible by maintenance-oriented sequencing, which ultimately increases machine availability (Zhai & Reinhart, 2018). For instance, many reviewed publications draw on the vast body of production scheduling theory and develop flexible methods to tackle the dynamicity of the nondeterministic time of maintenance (Rahmati et al, 2017(Rahmati et al, , 2018Zheng et al, 2013). Rahmati et al develop a CBMbased algorithm where different jobs must be scheduled on multiple degrading machines.…”

“…This strategy has already been used in studies by Panagiotis, H. [ 8 ] and Ahmadi, A. [ 9 ], which showed a model of machine reliability monitoring in which decisions on preventive or corrective maintenance were made based on observed reliability, although they did not consider the cost of maintenance. Zhen Hu [ 10 ] uses the health index to assess the remaining component lifetime on manufacturing lines.…”

“…Today, production scheduling and maintenance activities are part and parcel, so that maintenance activities affect many issues related to production management such as reliability, lack of access to machinery, and various costs [3]. In most production scheduling issues, it is assumed that machines are always available, whereas in the real world this is not the case; they are often out of reach due to machine failure or the need for periodic services and production stops for a while [4].…”

“…In this study, four optimization algorithms based on multi-objective simulation called MOBBO, PESA, NSGAIII, and MOEAD are used to solve the problem. Also, Rahmati et al [4] in another study have examined together the maintenance schedule and production planning. In this research, the advantage of RCM has been used to display and manage the maintenance performance of a complex random production planning problem called the workshop production scheduling problem.…”
