La destreza oral ha sido vista como una prioridad en la enseñanza del idioma durante un tiempo considerable. Es por esto que educadores e investigadores buscan constantemente alternativas para desarrollar esta destreza. El presente artículo estudió el impacto de las actividades de vacío de información en la disposición para usar el inglés para comunicarse en clases, así como medir si los estudiantes mejoraron su destreza oral luego de realizar estas actividades. Esto se hizo con el propósito de analizar si esta estrategia es una alternativa viable en relación a las actividades tradicionales propuestas por los libros que frecuentemente desmotivan a los estudiantes debido a su monotonía. El estudio ocurrió en una institución particular en Cuenca, Ecuador con un grupo de 20 participantes cuyo rango de edad oscila entre 16 y 17 años. Se utilizó un enfoque mixto en el cual los datos cuantitativos fueron obtenidos a través de un pre y post-test y el test de actitud y motivación de Gardner mientras que los datos cualitativos a través de un cuestionario y observaciones. Los resultados demostraron que las actividades de vacío de información beneficiaron tanto la destreza oral como las actitudes y percepciones hacia el aprendizaje del idioma.

This article corresponds to an action research which explored the contribution of information gap activities to support a group Honduran ninth-graders’ speaking fluency. Their speaking fluency was assessed in terms of speech rate, breakdowns or pauses, and repairs. This study adopted a mixed method approach: quantitative and qualitative. The sample chosen was a purposive sample made up of a group of seven ninth graders who had been learning English in rural context in a public high school in Comayagua for two years, all aged between 14 and 15 years old, with an A1 level.The information gap technique was implemented during seven sessions following the regular topics scheduled for the school term. Data were collected by applying a pre-test and a post-test to assess students’fluency, and results were assessed with an analytic rubric; and their perceptions were assessed by a focus group. The pre and post-test results showed an improvement in participants’ speaking fluency, and these results were in agreement with their positive perceptions. Moreover, participants expressed that information gap activities had impacted positively their motivation and their awareness of mistakes. In conclusion, information gap activities helped learners improve their speaking fluency and might support English teachers in Honduran rural public contexts not to rely upon traditional textbook use and make their classes more motivating and communicative.

The purpose of this study is to discover how students in the non-English department at the University Muhammadiyah of Parepare feel about learning English. Based on the perspectives of the students, this study sought to identify what factors may contribute to anxiety in an English learning environment. In this case, researchers prioritize the perspectives of students who are not English majors on the anxiety they frequently experience when learning English. The researcher used a case study to conduct qualitative research. While the participants in this study were students from Muhammadiyah University in Parepare for the academic year 2021/2022, the purposive sampling technique was used to select 7 non-English department students. The chosen samples would be interviewed to obtain detailed information about the data required. The findings of this study revealed that students had many concerns about learning English. The majority of respondents also admitted that English is difficult to learn because they lack basic abilities, such as a lack of vocabulary and the complexity of the material learned, which can make students feel confused and difficult to learn English. Furthermore, comments from other friends, such as the incorrect pronunciation of English vocabulary, affect their feelings. Respondents also revealed that lecturers' ability to bring material can influence their feelings about learning English. In the end, the students suggested that the lecturer be more creative to keep students interested in learning English, such as bringing in an outdoor concept and providing some games for the learning process
