Development and characterization of Eudragit based mucoadhesive buccal patches of salbutamol sulfate

Abstract: For systemic drug delivery, the buccal region offers an attractive route of drug administration. Salbutamol sulfate is a short-acting β2-adrenergic receptor agonist used for the relief of bronchospasm in conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It's oral bioavailability is ∼40% due to extensive first pass metabolism. Salbutamol sulfate patches were prepared using Eudragit L-100, HPMC, PVA and Carbopol 934 in various proportions and combinations using PEG-400/PG as plasticizers. Patc… Show more

“…Experimental evidences on better therapeutic efficacy of drug molecules viz. carvedilol, lidocaine, salbutamol, and miconazole as buccoadhesive films/patches have been referenced in scientific texts (2,3). Moreover, mucoadhesive preparations included in the European Pharmacopoeia 7.4 (2012) have encouraged researchers to utilize the advantages of the technique in drug delivery research (4).…”

“…By using solvent Castin method mucoadhesive oral strips were prepared, for this EUD RS-100, EUD RL-100, HPMC K100M, and HPMC E50 are used as a polymer which is a very speci ic and sensitive polymer, and it is also a safe one to use and which is also helpful for the controlled release of the drug. (Vasantha et al, 2011).…”
