Development and validation of a new short form of the self‐management ability questionnaire for patients with chronic periodontitis

Abstract: Objectives To establish and validate a short form of the self‐management ability questionnaire (SMAQ) for chronic periodontitis patients. Methods A total of 480 chronic periodontitis patients were recruited and divided randomly in into two groups: development group and validation group. The item reduction process of the SMAQ was based on item response theory (IRT) and classical test theory (CTT). The resulting short form of the SMAQ was then validated using exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory facto… Show more

“…It indicated that the intrinsic consistency reliability of the scale questions was satisfactory [ 46 ]. CITC values of items in this study shown as followed table ranged from 0.648 to 0.797, which was higher than 0.50 [ 47 ]. Thus, the instrument was reliable.…”

“…The result of CFA found that the factor loading values higher than 0.6. AVE valued exceeded 0.5 which was higher than the suggested value produced by Hair, indicating adequate convergent validity [54]. The CR values were between 0.796 and 0.830, exceeding the recommended value of 0.7 for achieving good convergent validity of the constructs [56].…”

“…In the present study, seven dimensions' Cronbach's Alpha ranged from 0.795 to 0.827 (see Table 3), which was higher than the recommended value of 0.6, showing that the intrinsic consistency reliability of the scale questions was satisfactory [53]. CITI values of items in the study shown as followed table ranged from 0.503 to 0.743, which was over the recommended benchmark of 0.5, indicating that there are no subscales to be excluded from the scale [54]. The result of CFA found that the factor loading values higher than 0.6.…”
