Development and validation of a RP-HPLC method for simultaneous determination of salicin and eight flavonoids in leaves ofSalix MatsudanaKoidz

Abstract: Summary.A reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic method was developed for the first time to simultaneously determine salicin and eight flavonoids in leaves of Salix matsudana, that is salicin, luteolin-7-O-glucoside, myricetin, apigenin-3′-oxyethyl-7-O-glucoside, rutin, quercetin, luteolin, kaempferol and apigenin. The separation of these compounds was achieved on a reversed phase C 18 column (250 × 4.6 mm, 5 μm), with linear gradient of methanol in 0.2% phosphoric acid solution with a flow rat… Show more

“…Salix contains a wide variety of flavonoids, which are distinctive for each species, as flavones, flavonols, flavanones, dihydroflavonols, isoflavones, chalcones, dihydrochalcones, flavan-3-ols and anthocyanins (Nasudari et al, 1972;Pobł ocka-Olech and Krauze-Shao et al, 1989;Du et al, 2004;Zeid, 2006;Jü rgenliemk et al, 2007;Baranowska, 2008;Freischmidt et al, 2010;Li et al, 2013). Data are summarized in Supplementary Table S1 and the structures are presented in Figure 1.…”

“…Recent years have witnessed the rapid development of certain modern techniques, for instance, HPLC‐UV and HPLC‐DAD, which have been verified as powerful and excellent approaches for the characterization and determination of constituents described above in TCM or TCMFs (Li, Shi, Han, & Zhang, ; Wei, Yang, Chen, Wang, & Cui, ; Yang et al, ; Yang, Yan, Mo, Li, & Wang, ; Zhou et al, ). Despite all the advantages, the HPLC method has a number of drawbacks such as low sensitivity, limited suitability and is time‐consuming, which seriously restricts its application in multi‐ingredient analysis.…”
