“…They showed that women having an amniocentesis had a higher procedure-induced anxiety than women having an ultrasound examination. However, the women experienced the same level of fear of having an abnormal result [ 33 ]. Regarding NIPT, the procedure-induced anxiety will likely be lower than for amniocentesis as it is not associated with any risk for the fetus, but probably higher than for ultrasound examination as having to wait for the result is an anxiety-inducing factor [ 33 ].…”

“…Over the past decade, fetal cardiology has rapidly developed from a primarily diagnostic field to a field that encompasses prenatal counseling and therapy . Early and improved diagnoses combined with effective counseling can impact morbidity, mortality and the emotional well‐being of the family . Effective counseling does not simply mean providing an accurate diagnosis, a clear picture of the prognosis and management and treatment options to women because mothers would feel shocked and scared and only focus on questions such as: ‘Will the baby be all right’, ‘What can I do for my baby’, and ‘Does the abnormality affect the intelligence’.…”

Our sample demonstrates that the results are quite different when mothers recognize that a doctor has suffered from similar difficulties.…”

“…The association between anxiety and prenatal diagnostic procedures is common, seeking to provide information on fetal gestation and development 23 . Obstetric ultrasonography, although not invasive, increases anxiety in pregnant women because of the potential to indicate fetal changes 24 .…”

“…Several instruments are used to measure anxiety in women in the perinatal period, but only the Pregnancy Anxiety Scale 26 was specifically designed for this use 27 . Nevertheless, none was developed to study anxiety prior to the conduction of diagnostic procedures, when concerns about fetal health and development are evident 23 .…”
