A case study of Srednebotuobinskoye Field, the oil deposits of which are confined to gas-oil-water and oil-water zones, describes the evolution of design decisions for development after the first year of asset operation. The first production data showed the need for separate solutions for under-gas-cap and water-oil zones, and the formation of a new field development concept, and their justification was the purpose of the work the results of which are shown in this paper. The difference with the previously performed work lies in the fact that development decisions were made based on the results of multiple runs on a variety of complex flow simulation models - fine-cellular and full-scale. The outcome of the study was the creation of a new development concept which provides different design solutions for under-gas-cap and water-oil zones. The value of the work lies in the fact that the decisions involve different oil displacement processes in different parts of deposits, which affects the oil recovery rate and as a consequence the whole field development and infrastructure complex.

Nowadays, geological and simulation models are an essential tool used for design and support of oil and gas field development. At the same time, creation and application of models is technically complex and requires nontrivial approaches and solutions. This paper describes the experience of application of modeling for support of drilling and development optimization of one of the largest fields in Eastern Siberia. A distinctive feature of the publication is a compilation of tools of geological and simulation modeling, including experience in dealing with applications for the period from the start of field development to the achievement of the maximum hydrocarbon production. Approaches to creation and rapid response updating of geological and simulation models of a complex productive formation are described. These models incorporate a large number of different geophysical data and are used for a rapid response to field development and production drilling support. The value of the work lies in the integration of a large set of geophysical and field data into a single geological and simulation model and its further effective use.

A number of large greenfields has lately been brought into development in Eastern Siberia, Russia, one of which being the Verkhnechonskoye oil and gas condensate field. There, for the first time in the history of domestic oil and gas production at regional scale, geologists faced a high-mineralized section, where the pore space of productive horizons is partially or fully filled with salt, which defines differential characteristics when developing new assets. This study highlights the field development in the context of uncertainties, and the risk control strategy. It describes solutions for well operation in low temperature formations and for maintaining the oil-rate plateau using new approaches to development of sections of low formation reservoir properties (FRP) and under-gas-cap zones with the contact reserves of oil.
