Abstract: This study established the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Suicide Intent Scale (SIS) in a clinic- and community-based sample of 36 patients and 592 respondents, respectively. “…Each of the SIS items is rated on a 3-point Likert-type scale (0-2) with a total score of 0-30. A Chinese version of the Suicide Intent Scale is a reliable and valid instrument for use in assessing the extent of suicidal intention with acceptable cross-cultural validity and reliability (Gau et al, 2009) among cases.…”

“…Suicide Intent Scale (SIS) has high internal reliability in different cultures (Beck, Schuyler, & Herman, 1974; Conner, Phillips, & Meldrum, 2007; Diaz, Baca-Garcia, Diaz-Sastre et al, 2003; Gau, Chen, Lee et al, 2009; Spirito, Sterling, Donaldson et al, 1996). The first 8 items of SIS are mainly dealing with factual aspects of the attempt and the events surrounding the individual (Beck, Schuyler, & Herman, 1974) which is regarded as a more reliable measure of suicidal intent.…”
