Development of a Sulfide-Bearing Aggregate Oxidation Test in Concrete

Abstract

<p>The development of a sulfide bearing oxidation test in concrete was investigated. Condition conducive to oxidation of sulfides minerals in mortar bars were adopted in concrete testing and failed to produce sulfate attack and expansion in concrete samples. Reason behind failure in provoking sulfate attack and expansion in concrete samples were proposed together with possible parameters to be considered for further concrete testing. Preliminary new exposure condition for concrete samples are also proposed, pending in depth investigation of mass loss/gain during soaking and storage time. Investigation of relative humidity and temperature changes in mortar bar testing exposure condition were also investigated to obtain the best possible combination of parameters to be applied in further concrete testing investigations.</p>
