Development of an Eye-Gaze Input System With High Speed and Accuracy through Target Prediction Based on Homing Eye Movements

Abstract: In this study, a method to predict a target on the basis of the trajectory of eye movements and to increase the pointing speed while maintaining high predictive accuracy is proposed. First, a predictive method based on ballistic (fast) eye movements (Approach 1) was evaluated in terms of pointing speed and predictive accuracy. In Approach 1, the so-called Midas touch problem (pointing to an unintended target) occurred, particularly when a small number of samples was used to predict a target. Therefore, to over… Show more

“…Multiobject tracking plays an important role in sports, especially ball games. For example, ice hockey players need to always pay attention to and track multiple moving objects on the eld; when dribbling and passing the ball, the player with the ball will allocate resources to di erent key areas in the sports scene, and players need to always pay attention to the position of teammates who are sliding at high speed and exibly change direction and also need to pay attention to the position and movement of the opponent's players; in other cases, other players should always pay attention to the position of the ball and the movement information of related players and track multiple moving objects for a period of time to collect information on the eld [1]. e ability to notice and continuously track multiple moving objects in a sports scene is a prerequisite for an athlete to make a reasonable tactical strategy.…”

“…Third, the egocentric vision is regarded as the most appropriate for maintaining privacy compared to the other method, and it is more suitable for independent hand rehabilitation using smart glasses. Classifying pinch and move mode is necessary based on time-series gaze analysis [66]. The real-time CMT results can be suggested as an input or sensor for robotic hand prostheses, partner robots, or other health care systems.…”
