Development of Biodegradable Plastics From Potato Starch With Enhanced Physico-Mechanical Properties Comparative to the Regular Plastic

Abstract: Conclusion and Future Studies:In this project work an effort is made to develop a biodegradable plastic from potato starch based material. This new biodegradable plastic has shown a very promising start with good physico-mechanical properties. However, further developments can be done in order to increase its strength, and improve the dimensional stability and chemical resistivity so that it can be used in different complicated purposes.

“…The production of bioplastics encompasses the use of renewable resources, including corn starch [18], potato starch [19], sugarcane [20], wheat [21], and soybeans [22], as well as speci c bioplastics like PLA derived from corn or sugarcane, and innovative sources such as algae [23], hemp [24], and wood pulp cellulose [25]. These resources not only contribute to mitigating environmental impacts, but also reduce dependence on nite fossil fuel reserves.…”

“…Momotaz, Hasan and Sarkar (1st Fab. 2022), focused in this research to develop the manufacturing process of starch-based biodegradable plastic with optimal and mechanical properties [4]. Therefore bioplastic prepared from different sources have different properties and the same sources but with the different methodologies shows different features.…”
