Development of chromatographic technologies for the quality control of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia

Abstract: As an important branch of medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been applied for the treatment of diseases for thousands of years in China and other countries in East Asia. The Chinese Pharmacopoeia (ChP) is a drug code formulated by the Chinese government, and it includes a special volume for the monographs of TCM, which plays an important role in ensuring the quality of drugs. The use of quality control technology has always been a complex and important factor in TCM. Owing to the chemical diversi… Show more

“…In addition to the research on active ingredients and their activities, quality control research is also a crucial research work, and it is a necessary monitoring measure to ensure quality. HPLC has the advantages of high separation efficiency, fast analysis speed, high sensitivity, and wide application range, and it is especially suitable for the separation and qualitative and quantitative analysis of complex mixed components [19,20]. In this paper, this technique was used to explore the method for determining the contents of the main active ingredients in mangosteen and the corresponding chromatographic fingerprint, which provided a basis for the quality control and evaluation of mangosteen and was conducive to the further development of this important medicinal plant resource.…”

“…Interestingly, none of the samples studied fulfilled this condition, not even when analysed after using ammonia during sample preparation. These results indicate certain shortcomings of the chromatographic methods prescribed by the pharmacopeias for AR samples [ 37 ]. Selection of more reliable detector type is very important for accurate quantification.…”

“…19062001) were collected from the province of Guangxi, China. The quality of each crude drugs was strictly ensured according to Chinese Pharmacopoeia to guarantee quality control ( 20 ). HMMCR aqueous extract was prepared according to the following experimental steps: 30 g of HMM and 15 g of CR were soaked in 10 volumes of distilled water for 30 min; then, the mixture was decocted for 1 h, and the resulting supernatant was collected.…”
