Development of Ecosystem for Corporate Green Innovation: Resource Dependency Theory Perspective

Abstract: Although research on green innovation has increased dramatically in recent years, little is known about the system mechanisms for the innovation. Grounded in the resource dependency theory (RDT) and national innovation system (NIS) literature, this study examines the ecosystem in promoting green innovation from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. This study constructs a Nash-Cournot equilibrium to address the effects of national green innovation systems on corporate green innovation. Using data of 213… Show more

“…Thus, the overall finding of this paper is that the mismatch between firm environmental efforts and government subsidies consumes and locks in firms' additional scarce cognitive resources. Recent literature has highlighted the increasing attention given to environmental protection (Gao et al, 2023; Pan et al, 2022; Yang et al, 2022). However, it is important to consider that excessive and radical government interventions in the implementation process may have counterproductive effects (Tian et al, 2022; Yang et al, 2023).…”

“…The data cover the 2000-2019 period. There are two reasons: first, green patents represent a direct reflection of enterprises' green technology innovation endeavors [31], which are quantifiable and have spillover effects within and outside the industry. Furthermore, in comparison to R&D investments, patents offer distinct advantages due to their precise technical classifications.…”

“…The number of phrases and critical terms in government reports reflects the concerns of decision makers regarding public affairs. Then, the green collaborative innovation of various entities can be promoted [46]. Second, the impact of government subsidies on enterprise green innovation mainly occurs through three channels, namely, financial support, signaling, and resource acquisition [47,48].…”
