Development of geometrically based fabrication emulator for MEMS micromachining and excimer laser ablation

Abstract: Computer aided design (CAD) is a key point in the development of all engineering products for cost reduction and for accelerating the update of products. Unlike mechanical design, which usually yields truly 3-D objects, the 2-D extruded nature of the microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) fabrication process makes it extremely suitable to be represented using an automatic solid modeling flow. In this paper, the relationship between key MEMS fabrication procedures and their corresponding solid modeling functions… Show more

“…Traditional design methods for MEMS are the fabrication-oriented design methods whose procedures are mask-to-shape-to-function. The research emphases of those methods focus on creating process simulations and 3D CAD models from mask and process data, which could be used to predict the physical behavior of MEMS devices [15][16][17]. The structured design methods for MEMS aim to make a clear separation between design and fabrication [1].…”

“…Simulationbased geometric modeling refers to creating CAD models from mask and process data by process simulations, such as MEMbuider [15], MEMShapes [16] and etc. [17]. Feature-based geometric modeling approach for surface micromachined micro-mechanical systems has been proposed by Gao[4,[8][9] firstly, and Liu et al [9].…”
