Development of intelligent play practice for trampolines

Abstract: This paper addresses the use of technology as an add-on to traditional and well-known dynamics of play. By introducing the process of development simulated by the interactive trampoline, this paper seeks to emphasize the relationship between physical activity, safety and sociality as important issues for future development of interactive design for play practices.

“…There are other solutions in our field that can also be seen as add-ons to play(ground) equipment. For instance, for the swing adding sounds or motorized movement in relation to breathing [10,21], to some extent Marshall et al's well-known breath controlled Broncomatic [20], fitness bar [24], and enhancements of trampolines either with screens [11] or interactive pods [13]. Perhaps, the closest to our design are the trampoline games and enhancements by Karoff et al [13].…”

We do see a difference in our focus on augmenting multiple existing playground equipment rather than seeing an endless interaction space surrounding one action.…”

“…For instance, satellites can also be embedded in the ground changing the action to stomping instead of pressing 3 , see Figure 2.3. Furthermore, Karoff et al used it to create an interactive trampoline [114].…”
