Development of Long Y-123 Coated Conductors for Coil-Applications by IBAD/PLD Method

Abstract: Long length Y-123 superconducting tapes were produced by reel-to-reel continuous vacuum processing, by using IonBeam-Assisted Deposition (IBAD) and Pulsed-Laser-Deposition (PLD). Biaxially textured Gd 2 Zr 2 O 7 buffer layers up to 255-m long were fabricated by IBAD with production speed of 0.5-1.0 m/h. Y-123 films were formed on them by PLD with production speed of 1.0-4.0 m/h. A 105-m long Y-123 film was fabricated with uniform thickness of 1.0 m and 1 of 3-4 . of 126 A was obtained in end-to-end at 77 K, 0 … Show more

“…The architecture of coated conductors can be described as a "sandwich" in which the Y Ba 2 Cu 3 O 7−x (YBCO) superconducting film of about 1µm thick is enclosed between a buffered metal substrate of relatively high resistivity (N i − 5%W alloy, Hastelloy, or stainless steel) and a copper stabilizer layer [1,2,3,4,5].…”

“…Specifications of the conductors used in the experiment are listed in TABLE 1. The YBCO conductors were made by IBAD/PLD process [1]. The substrate was Hastelloy and the copper stabilization layer was soldered to the silver protection layer.…”

“…Owing to recent progress of high temperature superconductor (HTS) technology, hundreds of kilometers of Bi2223/Agsheathed wires are produced in production scale and over 100 m long YBCO wires with significant value of transport critical current has been developed [1]. R&Ds of various HTS power apparatuses are ongoing in many countries and technical feasibility of HTS apparatuses is being demonstrated.…”
