“…Although the dependency of the structure on the phosphorus content provides the possibility to produce layered structures with periodically changing phosphorus contents using the single bath technique, only a few studies exist on this topic, which are even restricted to the analogical system Ni-P. Elias et al deposited amorphous/crystalline multilayer samples in the Ni-P system and proved an improved corrosion resistance as compared to homogeneous coatings [36]. The Ni-P systems was also used as a model system during the improvement of the dual bath technique [20,21] and diffusion measurements were performed on amorphous/crystalline multilayers produced with this technique [22].…”

“…The C dl double layer capacitance values are decreased to 5.7667 mF due to the PFFSC physisorption on the alloy surface. 47 The PFFSC coated nickel alloy phase angle increased and crevice corrosion was retarded due to the PFFSC carbon blocking active sites of the nickel alloy surface. The PFFSC impedance frequency and impedance phase angle increased due to the PFFSC electrostatic interactions on the nickel alloy surface.…”

“…It demonstrates that the time required for the corroding medium to reach the substrate by penetrating through the multilayer coating (T 1 ) is much greater than that for the monolayer coating (T 2 ). Reprinted with permission from [147]. Copyright (2016) Royal Society of Chemistry.…”

“…Heat-treated coatings exhibited relatively higher wear rate and friction coefficients than hard Cr deposits under oil-lubricated wear conditions. Elias et al [147] fabricated multilayer Ni-P alloy coatings for better corrosion protection of mild steel by employing cyclic modulation of the cathode current density. Achieved improvement in the corrosion protection of fabricated multilayer Ni-P alloy coatings was attributed to the large number of interfaces between layers of alloys having different composition and phase structures, at which corrosion propagates laterally until the interface breaks down (Figure 14).…”
