Development of Quality Management System Under ISO 9001:2015 and Joint Inspection Group (JIG) for Aviation Fuelling Service

Abstract: The Joint Inspection Group (JIG) standard for aviation fuel quality management assists in the operational process and maintenance of aviation fuel from its point of origin and through distribution systems to airports. Currently, problems arise as the JIG standard and quality management in aviation fuel are isolated and have independent procedures. “…The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards provide world-class requirements and guidelines for products, services and systems to ensure, among other things, quality, safety and efficiency (Combeau et al , 2009). These represent important tools for, for example, waste and cost reduction, standardizing processes and products, increasing competitiveness, promoting local and international commerce and reducing the asymmetry/discrepancy of information between customers and sellers/producers (Oliveira, 2013; Psomas et al , 2013; Ruamchat et al , 2017).…”

“…Meanwhile, the process approach involves the organization's procedures functioning as a single integrated system (Anttila and Jussila, 2017; Ruamchat et al , 2017). Understanding activities as integrated processes that function as a system helps to achieve more consistent results (Murray, 2016).…”

“…For instance, both [37] and [38] described a positive relation between the implementation of ISO 9001 and organizational performance. Likewise, [39] described how the implementation of ISO 9001 in refueling services at an airport reduced average monthly incidents by 45.2%. In their work, [40] found that ISO 9001 implementation in the food industry helps companies efficiently control resources and processes to finally attain international and economic growth.…”

“…The implementation of a QMS ISO 9001, improves industry's performance because it promotes a process approach and it meets the rules and client's requirements, contributing in the products manufacturing which meet parameters as comfort, security and quality (Ruamchat et al, 2017). In the coachwork industry, the adoption of QMS from the family of ISO 9001, provides a standardization of its processes, promoting the continuous improvement based on the Deming cycle, helping to face the threats of the competition in the national and international market (Schmeleva, 2017).…”

“…The requirements of this model are generic and applicable to any kind of enterprise regardless of its size or its activity. The application in new industrial sectors is framed in the evolution of the standard, improving the internal and external competitiveness of the business, strengthening the capacity of supplying consistent and high-quality products (Ruamchat et al, 2017). The requirements for implementing a QMS according to the methodology of the ISO, are non-rigid elements.…”
