Development of Resource-Saving Technologies in the Use of Sedimentation Inhibitors for Reverse Osmosis Installations

Abstract: The processes of desalination of weakly mineralized waters using a reverse osmosis membrane were studied. The operational efficiency of membranes is limited mainly by membrane contamination. It was shown that the preliminary mechanical water purification helps to increase the productivity and selectivity of the membrane. One of the main causes of membrane contamination is the formation of carbonate deposits on their surface. One way to prevent membrane contamination is to dose antiscalants. It was established … Show more

“…Reverse osmosis allows to obtain water of the required quality for water supply of the population and industry (Kyrii et al, 2020). As a result of baromembrane water purification, significant amounts of concentrated waste are formed (Trus, Gomelya, Skiba, Pylypenko & Krysenko, 2022).…”

“…Ion exchange is used to remove sulfates. Sulfate ions can usually be removed using weakly basic anion resins (Guimaraes and Leao 2014;Trus, 2022b). The maximum efficiency of removing sulfates from the solution is observed at a dose of ion exchange resin of 1000 mg/100 cm 3 .…”

“…The efficiency of removal of hardness ions and sulfates increases with increasing pH, and the selectivity of the nanofiltration membrane increases with increasing sulfate concentration. However, the accumulation of suspended and dissolved solids on the surface of the membrane creates a layer of fouling and scaling, which causes increased operating costs due to the need for chemical cleaning and the use of anti-scaling agents, reduced membrane life, and reduced water treatment efficiency (Trus et al, 2022a;Trus et al, 2022b).…”
