Development of validated determination of the eleven marker compounds in Gyejibokryeong-hwan for the quality assessment using HPLC analysis

Abstract: This study was designed for quality assessment of Gyejibokryeong-hwan (GBH) preparations using the simultaneous determination of 11 marker compounds such as gallic acid, oxypaeoniflorin, amygdalin, albiflorin, paeoniflorin, benzoic acid, coumarin, cinnamic acid, benzoylpaeoniflorin, cinnamaldehyde, and paeonol using HPLC-PDA and chemometric analysis. The correlation coefficient of linear regression was >0.9993. The LOD and LOQ values were in the ranges of 0.02-2.11 and 0.06-7.34 μg/mL, respectively. The intra-… Show more

“…GBH has been used extensively to treat blood stasis and climacteric syndrome throughout Asia [ 11 , 12 ] and has been approved by both the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Additional studies have investigated the safety and efficacy of GBH in various populations [ 13 , 14 ].…”

“…Although quantitative analysis using the UPLC method has been widely used for the quality assessment of herbal medicine or preparation, 12 gas chromatography or HPLC using sulfuric acid as the mobile phase has been generally used for the quantification of propionic acid content. The developed method from this study using UPLC was successfully applied to the measurement of S. baicalensis roots, showing shorter analysis time, more convenient conditions, and lower LOD and LOQ values.…”
