Di-hadron production at Jefferson Laboratory

Abstract: Semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) has been used extensively in recent years as an important testing ground for QCD. Studies so far have concentrated on better determination of parton distribution functions, distinguishing between the quark and antiquark contributions, and understanding the fragmentation of quarks into hadrons. Hadron pair (di-hadron) SIDIS provides information on the nucleon structure and hadronization dynamics that complement singlehadron SIDIS. Di-hadrons allow the study of lo… Show more

“…Even though twist-3 contributions are suppressed by one order of 1 /Q, this factor is not large at JLab12 and twist-3 PDFs themselves can be large. In fact, evidence of twist-3 PDFs has been seen in preliminary results from COMPASS and CLAS6 [2,20,21]. The effects are of the same order of magnitude than those of leading twist functions.…”

“…Pions coming from the fragmentation of the target remnants are excluded by requesting positive values for the Feynman x F variable. An analogous measurement is carried on a longitudinally polarized NH 3 target, that aims at the extraction of both single and double-spin asymmetries [70]. In Fig.…”

“…The two combined measurements will allow to separately extract e uv (x) and e dv (x). Because of the expected high Solid squares for an unpolarized hydrogen target [69], empty circles for a longitudinally polarized N H3 target [70].…”

“…Although transverse momentum-dependent factorization of the cross section at subleading twist is not yet proven [9], Q 2 at CLAS12 reaches down to 1 GeV 2 , where twist-3 effects are nonnegligible. Collinear twist-3 PDFs are significant [10], however subleading-twist DiFFs are likely subdominant [11][12][13].…”
