Di-μ-hydroxo-bis[(2,2′-bipyridine)palladium(II)] trifluoromethanesulfonate

Abstract: The cation in the title complex, [Pd2(OH)2(C10H8N2)2](CF3SO3)2, is essentially planar and features square‐planar Pd centers that are linked via a pair of symmetric hydroxo bridges. In the crystal structure, extensive O—H⋯O hydrogen bonding and π–π interactions lead to the formation of cationic columns.

“…The internal Pd…Pd distance is 3.0001(11) Å. The structure is isomorphous with the Pt analog [28], Pt…Pt is 3.0837 (14) [10]. In the latter, the Pd-O bond distances of 2.0228(19) and 2.0195(19) Å are experimentally equivalent to those found for (2) as are the Pd-N distances.…”

“…Complex 2 was not very soluble in water and precipitated as pale yellow crystalline needles. Similar behavior has been observed in the synthesis of the Pd dimer, [Pd(bipy)(μ-OH)] 2 [NO 3 ] 2 (where bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine) [10].…”

“…The title complex, [Pd(NO 3 ) 2 {Ph 2 P(CH 2 CH 2 )PPh 2 }], (I), is isomorphous with the Pt II analog (Arendse et al, 2001) and was investigated in relation to our continuing interest in the coordination chemistry of cationic Pd complexes (Zhu et al, 2004;Adrian et al, 2006). The Pd atom in (I) ( Fig.…”

“…Our group has been exploring the use of Pd(II) complexes as a starting material in the synthesis of polynuclear cyclic structures with potential application as antitumor agents. Although the chemistry of (2,2 0 -bipyridine)Pd(II) nitrate complexes in aqueous media has been well investigated since the late 1980s [2][3][4][5], to the best of our knowledge only one of the complexes originally proposed by Wimmer and coworkers [2,3,5] has been isolated and structurally characterized [6]. Complex Pd(2,2 0 -bipyridine) (NO 3 ) 2 is usually proposed as a monomer in the solid state, but recently Fujita and coworkers have reported the synthesis and structural characterization of the dimer, {cis-[(2,2 0 -bipyridine)Pd] 2 (l-1,3-NO 3 ) 2 } 2+ , where the Pd(2,2 0 -bipyridine) 2+ units are held together by two nitrato bridges in a cofacial arrangement [7].…”
