Di-μ-perchlorato-bis{μ-2-[(2-pyridyl)methylaminomethyl]phenolato)dicopper(II) acetonitrile disolvate

Abstract: In the crystal of the dinuclear title compound, [Cu2(C13H13N2O)2(ClO4)2]·2CH3CN, the two bridging perchlorate ions chelate to the two CuII atoms in a μ-O:O′ fashion on opposite sides of the equatorial plane. The CuII ions display a distorted octahedral coordination geometry (in the usual 4 + 2 Jahn–Teller arrangement), each being coordinated by two O atoms from the two perchlorate ligands, and two N and O atoms from the reduced Schiff base ligand. The asymmetric unit contains two acetonitrile solvent molecul… Show more

“…Data collection: CrysAlis CCD (Oxford Diffraction, 2008); cell refinement: CrysAlis RED (Oxford Diffraction, 2008); data reduction: CrysAlis RED; program(s) used to solve structure: SHELXS97 (Sheldrick, 2008); program(s) used to refine structure: SHELXL97 (Sheldrick, 2008); molecular graphics: SHELXTL (Sheldrick, 2008); software used to prepare material for publication: SHELXTL. The present complex was synthesized by displacement of weakly coordinated perchlorate anions from a structurally determined complex (Assey et al, 2009) The crystal structure of the resulting complex, bis{µ-O-[2-((pyridin-2-ylmethylamino)methyl)phenolato]thiocyanatocopper(II)} has been determined. In this instance, two thiocyanate ligands were ligated to the copper(II) complex as a result of displacement of weakly coordinated perchlorate ligands.…”

“…Different strategies have been employed in the design of this class of compounds. The first approach was achieved though the interaction Cu(II) salts with tridentate ligand-based phenolates in their skeletons [ 34 , 35 , 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 , 41 ], and the second approach was via the design of bicompartmental phenolates bearing two pendent arms of N-donor groups [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 42 , 43 ]. A third approach was also used through the design of tripodal pyridyl tetradentate ligands containing one or two phenolate arms [ 12 , 14 , 15 , 20 , 29 , 44 , 45 , 46 , 47 , 48 , 49 , 50 , 51 ].…”
