“…Among the available biopolymers, CS has the highest sorption performance toward HMIs [10][11][12] due to its abundant -NH 2 and -OH groups. Its sorption capacity has been further improved by functionalization with diacetylmonoxime [17] and polyhexamethyleneguanidine [18] or grafting of malic acid [19] or glutamic acid [20] onto CS matrix. Nevertheless, CS has poor mechanical properties and exhibits low chemical stability in harsh aqueous environments such as HMIs-containing wastewaters.…”

“…Chitosan exhibited a semicrystalline structure with two characteristic diffractive peaks at 2θ = 12°and 20°, which corresponded to reflection peaks in hydrated chitosan crystals at (0 2 0) and (1 0 0). 41,42 After the cross-linking reaction, the peak at 2θ = 12°d isappeared and the peak at 2θ = 20°decreased in intensity. These results demonstrated that the structural arrangement of the polysaccharide backbone changed after the crosslinking reaction and the crystallinity decreased, which might be attributed to the damage of inter and intra-molecular hydrogen bonds and the slight depolymerization of polysaccharide chains.…”

“…In another study concerned with the s tive Ni removal and proper complexation with Ni ions, an ion-imprinted material prepared with diacetylmonoxine-modified chitosan. To maintain the structural rigidi the polymer, glyoxal was used as a crosslinker [145]. Lenoble et al [146] prepared a imprinted polymer using N-(4-vinylbenzyl)-2-(aminomethyl)pyridine (Vbamp) ligan form a complex between Ni²⁺ and the complex crosslinked with EGDMA in a 1:3 r The prepared material showed excellent retention capacity over other competitive The properties of the abovementioned Ni-IIPs are presented in Table 8.…”
