Diagnoses to unravel secular hydrodynamical processes in rotating main sequence stars

Abstract: Context. Recent progress and constraints brought by helio and asteroseismology call for a better description of stellar interiors and an accurate description of rotation-driven mechanisms in stars. Aims. We present a detailed analysis of the main physical processes responsible for the transport of angular momentum and chemical species in the radiative regions of rotating stars. We focus on cases where meridional circulation and shear-induced turbulence all that are included in the simulations (i.e., no either … Show more

“…The published grids of Bertelli et al (2009), Brott et al (2011a, Ekström et al (2012) and Chieffi & Limongi (2013) have been used. We have also computed additional models with the codes STAREVOL (Decressin et al 2009) and MESA (Paxton et al 2013). Our goal was to estimate and highlight the uncertainties in the output of these models.…”

“…To achieve our goal of comparing stellar evolution tracks of massive stars, we have used four databases of stellar evolution tracks presented in Bertelli et al (2009), Brott et al (2011a, Ekström et al (2012), Chieffi & Limongi (2013) and we computed models using the STAREVOL code (Decressin et al 2009) and the MESA code (Paxton et al 2011(Paxton et al , 2013. We recall here the main ingredients and physical parameters used in each case since they may differ largely and these differences appear to affect the evolutionary tracks.…”

“…In particular they do not account for rotation-induced mixing that is known to affect stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis (see Decressin et al 2009b and references therein). Additionally, the rotational transport itself may have been strengthened by the stellar coupling in the binary system (see e.g.…”

“…In a rotating star, meridional circulation and shear turbulence exist, both of which can drive the transport of chemical elements. This effect is stronger and has already been studied by many scholars (Endal & Sofia 1978;Pinsonneaul et al 1989;Chaboyer & Zahn 1992;Zahn 1992;Meader & Zahn 1998;Denissenkov et al 1999;Talon et al 1997;Decressin et al 2009). In this paper, the amplitude expression for the radial component of the meridional circulation velocity U(r) considers the effect of tidal force, which may be important in a massive close binary system.…”
