Diagnosis and treatment of cryptorchid testicular torsion in children: A 12-year retrospective study

Abstract: PurposeTo investigate the clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of cryptorchid testicular torsion in children.MethodsThe clinical data of 25 children who received treatment for cryptorchid testicular torsion between January 2010 and December 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. The median age of the patients was 64.5 months (range: 2 months to 15 years). All patients had unilateral torsion, and the duration of symptoms ranged from 3 to 192 h.ResultsAmong the 25 patients, five underwent orchidopexy,… Show more

“…The recommended period for surgical exploration and orchidopexy is between 6 months and 18 months of age, as this is when the probability of a spontaneous descent becomes less likely [8]. Orchiectomy is recommended if testicular necrosis has been observed and if there is no blood flow [9]. In our case, we presented a 7-year-old child who had undescended testicle torsion in inguinal region, which is uncommon in this age range.…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, there are little researches about cryptorchidism testicular torsion to compare between groups according to the high-risk age. Testicular torsion in patients with cryptorchidism accounts for 6.8%∼21.0% of all testicular torsion cases ( 10 13 ). In our research, the prevalence of cryptorchidism torsion is 9.25% (16/173), which is the same as other studies.…”
