Diagnosis of Combined Cycle Power Plant Based on Thermoeconomic Analysis: A Computer Simulation Study

Abstract: Abstract:In this study, diagnosis of a 300-MW combined cycle power plant under faulty conditions was performed using a thermoeconomic method called modified productive structure analysis. The malfunction and dysfunction, unit cost of irreversibility and lost cost flow rate for each component were calculated for the cases of pre-fixed malfunction and the reference conditions. A commercial simulating software, GateCycle TM (version 6.1.2), was used to estimate the thermodynamic properties under faulty conditions… Show more

“…It should be noted that the lost work rate due to the entropy generation plays as "product" in the exergy-balance of the component, while the lost cost flow rate plays as "consumed resources" in the cost-balance equation. This concept is very important in the research area of thermoeconomic diagnosis [18,[26][27][28].…”

“…MOPSA has been proved as very useful and powerful method in the exergy and thermoeconomic analysis of large and complex thermal systems such as a geothermal district heating system for buildings [15] and a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor coupled to a steam methane reforming plant [16]. Furthermore, the MOPSA can provide the interaction between the components in the power plant through the entropy flows [17] and a reliable diagnosis tool to find faulty components in power plants [18].…”

“…As can be seen in Equation 6, a single unit cost is assigned to the specific exergy, regardless of the type of exergy stream or the state of the stream. Applying the cost-balance equation given in Equation 6to each component, Equation 6can be rewritten as follows [26]:…”

“…Operating parameters of the gas turbine process at each characteristic operating point, Figure 1 and Figure 2, before and after a major maintenance are found in [35]. Table 1 presents the gas turbine process operating parameters before a major maintenance and Table 2 presents the gas turbine process operating parameters after a major maintenance.…”
