Diagnosis of induction motor failures using discrete wavelet transform of an auxiliary winding voltage

Abstract: Over last years, great attention has been developed to avoid the machines breakdown especially in the squirrel cage induction motor which suffer from different failures. The aim of this paper is to present a new method for the diagnosis of rotor bar breakage and end ring in induction machine fed by an inverter based on discrete wavelet transform applied on the voltage of an auxiliary winding as a new monitoring signature. The expression of the auxiliary winding voltage related to a small coil inserted between … Show more

“…By leveraging the strengths of these wavelet types, researchers and practitioners can make informed decisions regarding the selection of the most appropriate wavelet for fault diagnosis based on the specific characteristics of the signals they are analyzing [28], [29]. This, in turn, can lead to more accurate and reliable fault detection and diagnosis, contributing to improved maintenance strategies and increased operational efficiency of induction motors.…”

“…Short circuits will still occur if there is no improvement to the insulation of the motor stator winding. Still, it only lasts temporarily, after which the motor will continue to operate as usual [10].…”

“…Such a flux alteration can serve as an indicator for detecting short-circuit disturbances in the stator winding of the induction motor [9]. In stator windings, usually, the stator windings consist of sufficient insulation thickness and multiple sparks are also generated means that insulation will survive, so winding short circuit will happen between winding in worst conditions only [10].…”
