Diagnosis of mycoplasma pneumoniae by loop-mediated isothermal amplification: systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract: Background A novel method, termed loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), was developed by Notomi et al. (2000). Individually published results have been reported that this technology has been successfully applied to the detection of a variety of pathogens. However, the overall diagnostic accuracy of LAMP for Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) remains unclear. A meta-analysis was therefore performed to review the accuracy of LAMP for Mycoplasma pneumoniae. … Show more

“…The most significant one is its rapidity; LAMP allows immediate diagnosis in just 30–50 min 36 . Recently, LAMP has been utilized for the rapid detection of some pathogens, and their results showed high accuracy and availability in the diagnosis of the corresponding pathogens 37‐39 . In the detection of norovirus, LAMP with hydroxynaphthol blue dye could be observed visually through the change of color; therefore, the instrument of molecular electrophoresis is not required 27,28,31 …”

“…This method can be applied for the detection of both viruses and bacteria, since both DNA and RNA can be amplified. So far, this technique has proven to be useful for the detection of M. pneumoniae [ 26 ] and S. pneumoniae [ 27 ], among others.…”
