Diagnostic Accuracy and Discrepancies of Frozen Section Analysis in a Colombian Intermediate Care Center

Abstract: Introduction: The frozen section procedure is an intraoperative diagnostic method widely used and useful for surgical decision making; which minimizes costs and optimizes staging. Objectives: This research assesses the diagnostic accuracy of frozen section in an intermediate care center, analyzes the factors that may be involved in misdiagnosis and compares the results of the original study with other studies. Materials and methods: This is a cross-sectional study in which the diagnostic accuracy was evaluated… Show more

“…Their point of interface is believed to be cholinergic afferents and neuroendocrine cells underlying the epithelial lining of the gut [10]. There are immunoreactive cells located in the interstitial space as well [11], so the exact boundaries of the GBA remain poorly defined [4,12]. That the GBA not only channels information but exerts its own physiological consequences through feedback setpoints akin to the autonomic nervous system, is implied but not fully understood.…”

“…However, models to date have been aimed elsewhere. Namely, they have aimed at signals from nerve-to-epithelium, or lumen-to-immunocytes, or lumen-to-neuroenteroendocrine cells [11]. Some have shown in hindsight to be models of gastrointestinal (GI) cancer cell interactions [13,16].…”
