Diagnostic Performance of a New Rapid Lateral Flow Immunoassay in Patients Suspected of Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia and Its Clinical Consequences

Abstract: We prospectively evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of a new rapid assay (STic Expert HIT) alone or in combination with a clinical score in 90 HIT-suspected patients. The 4Ts score was calculated, and ELISA and serotonin-release assay (SRA) were performed; the average time taken for test results were 2 and 5 days for ELISA and SRA, respectively. The STic test was performed in our laboratory as an evaluation exercise and the result was available in 1 hour, but results were not communicated to the clinicians so a… Show more

“…66,67 Stago Diagnostics also offers a process for HIT testing, but this is a manual test using lateral flow technology (i.e., no hemostasis instrumentation is involved). [66][67][68] It is expected that HIT testing will become more widely available on mainstream hemostasis instrumentation in the future.…”

“…There are two broad classes of HIT tests: immunological assays that detect heparin‐PF4 antibodies (Box 3), and functional assays that measure heparin‐dependent platelet activation and aggregation by these antibodies (Box 4). However, all HIT tests suffer several limitations related to sensitivity and specificity, or to complexity and accessibility …”

“…The incidence of PaGIA reported in India ranges from 1.4 to 23% [11][12][13][14] and the data from different studies from India are compared in Table 3. Kapadia et al [11] had reported PaGIA positivity 1.4%.…”
