Diagnostic Utility of Satb2 in Metastatic Colorectal Carcinoma

Abstract: Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic utility of SATB2 in detecting CRC origin for patients presenting with metastatic carcinomas. Study Design: Cross sectional, comparative study. Place and Duration of Study: Study was conducted at department of Histopathology, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Rawalpindi from January 2019 to June 2019. Materials and Methods: Already diagnosed 68 cases of metastatic carcinoma of various origins with unknown primary were retri… Show more

“…Considering the validity of the examined markers individually, this study achieved that SATB2 was more sensitive than CK20 but less sensitive than CDX2 in detection of CRC. However, SATB2 was more specific than CDX2 and CK20 similar to the findings of other reports [ 3 , 5 , 8 , 9 , 23 , 26 , 28 ]. Salim et al [ 28 ] reported that SATB2 and CDX2 had the same sensitivity, and theirs were higher than that of CK20.…”

“…In other words, there were no cases of positive SATB2 accompanied by negative CDX2. This finding is consistent with the study conducted by Salim et al, who reported that all positive SATB2 cases were also positive for CDX2 (9). Salim et al evaluated cases of already-diagnosed metastatic carcinoma with diverse origins and reported a high sensitivity of SATB2 expression for colorectal cancer, which aligns with the investigation conducted by Magnusson et al (10).…”

“…The SATB2 "special AT-rich sequence-binding protein 2", represents a transcription factor [9][10][11][12] that attaches to the DNA nuclear matrix attachment region and subsequently directs transcription and chromatin remodeling [3,4,[11][12][13]. The SATB2 gene is located on chromosome 2.…”
