Background: Infertility affects 10-15% of reproductive age couples. Routine pelvic examination and usual diagnostic procedures can miss majority of the pelvic pathologies. Hysterolaparoscopy is an effective tool for diagnosing these pathologies and additionally therapeutic procedures, like polypectomy, myomectomy, septal resection and adhesiolysis, can be done in the same sitting. Objective of present study was to determine the role of diagnostic hysterolaparoscopy for evaluating the causes of infertility.Methods: It was a prospective study conducted at the Department of OBGY from September 2015 to August 2016. Patients aged 20-40 years with infertility were included in the study. The prevalence of different lesions was analysed.Results: Out of the 30 patients studied, most had primary infertility. Laparoscopic abnormalities (56.6%) were more common than hysteroscopic abnormalities (36.6%). Adnexal adhesions (26.6%) was the most common abnormality detected on laparoscopy, while the common intra-uterine pathologies were uterine septum and synechiae.Conclusions: Hysterolaparoscopy may be recommended as the procedure of choice for evaluation of female infertility, which are usually missed by imaging modalities.

Background: Reproductive endocrinologist, consider a couple to be infertile if the couple has not conceived after 12 months of contraceptive free intercourse if the female is under the age of 34 years. The incidence of infertility in any community varies between 10-15 %. Tubal occlusion is one of the most frequent causes of infertility in women (20-40 %). The evaluation of the fallopian tube is necessary to determine the management plan for infertility. The two most diagnostic procedures which are used for the evaluation of tubal patency are hysterosalpingography and laparoscopy 1 . Aims of this study were: To study the validity of hysterosalpingography, in detecting tubal factors in infertility, as compared to diagnostic laparoscopy. Material and Method: This descriptive study was conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in a tertiary health care center attached to a Medical College. A total number of 114 primary as well as secondary infertility patients were evaluated for tubal factors of infertility. All the infertility cases underwent HSG on day 8 th , 9 th and 10 th day of the menstrual cycles. Laparoscopic chromopertubation was done during proliferative phase of the next menstrual cycle. Statistical analysis was done using statistical package for social sciences ver.18. The result was expressed in mean and standard deviation. "Z" test for the difference between the two means were used. For qualitative data proportion and "Chi" test were used. For assessing the validity of HSG in diagnosing in tubal factors of infertility laparoscopy was used as a gold standard. For the purpose of this study, 95% confidence limit was chosen and corresponding p-value <0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Conclusion: In our study we found that Hysterosalpingography is simple, inexpensive, safe and rapid diagnostic modality for tubal patency then laparoscopy. Laparoscopy is considered the Gold Standard for diagnosing tubal and peritoneal disease. HSG and Laparoscopy are not alternative, but complimentary methods in the examination of tubal patency in case of infertility.

Background: Infertility is a critical component of reproductive health, and has often been neglected in these efforts. The inability to have children affects men and women across the globe. Infertility can lead to distress and depression, as well as discrimination and ostracism. Hysterosalpingography (HSG) of infertile women is useful for the assessment of structure of uterine cavity, tubes and their patency. However, although a more invasive procedure such as laparoscopy (L/S) which is regarded as the most reliable method in detection of tubal pathologies in infertility.Methods: This was a Prospective cross sectional study of 50 patients with history of primary or secondary infertility selected from IPD of Jawaharlal Nehru medical College and Acharya Vinobha Bhave Rural Hospital, Tertiary Health Care Centre Located in Sawangi, Wardha, Maharashtra (India). The age group of the patients was between 18 yrs. - 45 yrs. The study population was selected depending upon the total number of patients (fitting the criteria) visiting the IPD of AVBRH Department of Obstetrics and gynecology for a period of 1 years (September 2015 to September 2016). The collected data was compiled and proper statistical formulas were applied to analyze the data collected.Results: The present study include 50 cases of both primary and secondary infertility of which 29 cases (58%) were primary infertility and 21 cases (42%) were secondary infertility. In this study the 3(6%) cases were found in the age group of <20 years followed by 16 (32%) cases in the age group of 21-25 years, 19(38%) cases were in the age group of 26-30 years while 7(14%) cases were in the age group of 31-35years the age group of 36-40 years 2(14%) and in age group > 40 years is 3(6%). In the present study, based on Kuppuswamy index most (30%) of the women had class IV socio economic status in both primary and secondary infertility. In the present study, there were 6 (28.57%) cases with History of LSCS, 7 cases (33.33%) had FTND, 6(28.57%) cases had history of abortion, and 2(9.52%) had previous ectopic pregnancy. Moderate degree of agreement was found between findings of both tests.Conclusions: The results suggest that hysterosalpingography is useful as a primary screening procedure, but laparoscopy provides a more accurate assessment of tubal patency in the investigation of infertility.
