Diagnostics of DC and Induction Motors Based on the Analysis of Acoustic Signals

Abstract: In this paper, a non-invasive method of early fault diagnostics of electric motors was proposed. This method uses acoustic signals generated by electric motors. Essential features were extracted from acoustic signals of motors. A plan of study of acoustic signals of electric motors was proposed. Researches were carried out for faultless induction motor, induction motor with one faulty rotor bar, induction motor with two faulty rotor bars and flawless Direct Current, and Direct Current motor with shorted rotor … Show more

“…The data collected and the conclusions drawn can be used in the design of technological process, but they can equally well serve the task of building intelligent systems, as has already been demonstrated in previous works of the authors using rough set theory [12] and the logic of plausible reasoning [13] and others related with diagnostics [14] or [15].…”

“…This paper also deals with railway interlocking signaling installations with Uninterrupted Power Supply UPS capability for safety applications and predictive diagnostics. In [30], fault diagnostics of electric motors by non-invasive methods utilizing acoustic signals generated by the motor are proposed. The proposed approached reduces the cost and faults in motors.…”

“…This concept requires mathematical transformation of the sensor readings since the signal is affected by irregularities occurring in all three contact points of the sphere. It can be easily conducted with the use of Fourier transform [6,7]. angles between supports and the sensor axis [5] Sensor readings in a given point of the profile is a function of the angles between supports and the change of the displacement of the sensor tip in this point.…”
