Diallyl Trisulfide Inhibits Growth of NCI-H460 in Vitro and in Vivo, and Ameliorates Cisplatin-Induced Oxidative Injury in the Treatment of Lung Carcinoma in Xenograft Mice

Abstract: Diallyl trisulfide (DATS), an organosulfuric component of garlic oil, exhibits potential anticancer and chemopreventive effects. Cisplatin (DDP), a common chemotherapeutic agent, has provided great therapeutic contributions to treating solid tumors, but with serious side effects. Here, we verified the anti-tumor properties of DATS on lung cancer in vitro and in vivo, and evaluated synergistic effects of DATS combined with DDP on the NCI-H460 xenograft model. Significantly decreased cell viabilities, cell cycle… Show more

“…Portions of the suspension (5 × 10 6 cells in 0.1 ml/mouse) were mixed at a 3:1 ratio with Matrigel basement membrane matrix and injected subcutaneously into the mice. Following 2 weeks of growth, tumor tissues were cut into multiple 2 × 2 × 2 mm 3 pieces and implanted using a range trocar subcutaneously (s.c. injection) into the left forepaw armpit of each mouse (Jiang et al, 2017). Treatment with pharmacology was started when the tumors reached an average volume of 100–200 mm 3 .…”

“…It is noteworthy that S-allylcysteine can be detected in the plasma, liver and kidney after oral intake. 135 Previous studies have documented that the bioavailability of S-allylcysteine was 103.0% in mice, 98.2% in rats and 87.2% in dogs. 136 Allicin is supposed to be the chief compound of garlic and Allicin cannot be detected in the blood or urine after the ingestion of raw garlic or pure allicin within 1 to 24 hours after ingestion of 25 g raw garlic.…”
