“…The general surgical aspects have been discussed by various authors2-69 8,9 but the anaesthetic management has received less attention 10-12. The ventilatory problem, with which the anaesthetist is primarily concerned, is the critical factor in the management of babies with congenital diaphragmatic hernia presenting within a few hours of birth. In the present series over 27 % of the babies had to be resuscitated at birth and these babies, all with left sided hernia, showed dextrocardia which has been emphasised as a sign of congenital diaphragmatic hernias.…”
