Key indicators: single-crystal X-ray study; T = 298 K; mean (C-C) = 0.005 Å; disorder in main residue; R factor = 0.040; wR factor = 0.114; data-to-parameter ratio = 14.7.In the title compound, [CoCl 2 (C 13 H 20 N 4 )]ÁH 2 O, the Co II atom lies on a mirror plane and is four-coordinated by two N atoms of the imidazole ligand and two Cl atoms in a distorted tetrahedral arrangement. The water molecule participates in the formation of hydrogen bonds, resulting in a three dimensional network involving the Cl atoms and the NH groups.
