Dichloridobis(N,N′-diethylthiourea-κS)mercury(II)

Abstract: There are two molecules in the asymmetric unit of the title compound, [HgCl2(C5H12N2S)2]. In both molecules, the N,N′-diethylthiourea ligands exhibit a cis, trans geometry around their C—N amide bonds. The shapes of the molecules are, to a large extent, determined by intramolecular N—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds formed by the N—H groups from the cis amide groups. In one molecule, these groups are involved in three-center hydrogen bonds involving both chloride ligands, whereas in the other molecule only one Cl li… Show more

“…1, Table 1). The bond distances and bond angles are in agreement with those reported for related compounds (Ahmad et al, 2009;Altaf et al, 2010;Jiang et al, 2001;Lobana et al, 2008;Mufakkar et al, 2010;Nawaz et al, 2010;Popovic et al, 2000;Wu et al, 2004). The SCN 2 moiety of dmtu is planar [to within 0.002 (1) In the crystal packing of the title complex, symmetry-related molecules are connected via intermolecular N-H···N hydrogen bonds, involving the thiourea NH atoms and the N atom of the CN -anions (Fig.…”

“…Several crystallographic reports about mercury(II) complexes of the type, L 2 HgX 2 (L = thiourea or its derivatives) reveal that these complexes usually consist of discrete monomeric molecules with tetrahedral (somewhat distorted) coordination environments around mercury(II) (Ahmad et al, 2009;Bell et al, 2001;Jiang et al, 2001;Lobana et al, 2008;Mufakkar et al, 2010;Nawaz et al, 2010;Popovic et al, 2000;Wu et al, 2004). Recently, we have reported the crystal structures of a number of cyanido complexes of d 10 metal ions with L-type ligands, including the crystal structure of a trinuclear complex, [{(tmtu) 2 Hg(CN) 2 } 2 .…”

“…At 102.47 (4) , the Cl-Hg-Cl bond angle is significantly smaller, which can be attributed to the bulkier Dmtu ligands. The Hg-S, Hg-Cl and other bond lengths (Table 1) have similar values compared with other [HgCl 2 L 2 ] complexes (Ahmad et al, 2009;Isab et al, 2011;Malik et al, 2010a;Mufakkar et al, 2010;Popović et al, 2000). In (I), the N-(C S)-N skeleton of the Dmtu ligand is essentially planar with an r.m.s.…”

“…In both types of complexes, monomeric (1:2) or polymeric (1:1), the coordination environment around Hg II is distorted tetrahedral or pseudo-tetrahedral. We have recently reported the crystal structures of HgCl 2 and Hg(CN) 2 complexes with methylthiourea as an auxiliary ligand (Isab et al, 2011), N,N 0 -dimethylthiourea (Malik et al, 2010a), N,N 0 -diethylthiourea (Mufakkar et al, 2010), N,N 0 -dibutylthiourea (Ahmad et al, 2009) and tetramethylthiourea (Nawaz et al, 2010).…”
